Decoupage card (paper) with a single-side matte print is used for decoration in the decoupage technique on solid surfaces. Cards can be glued to both a dark and a light basis.
Application: cut out the selected image along the contour, apply the glue evenly both on the back side of the image, and on the decorated object surface. Apply the image and gently smooth it. After drying the finished surface should be covered with a finishing or decorative varnish to protect against mechanical influences and moisture.
As an example, here is a detailed instruction on decorating a desktop organizer made of 3mm MDF with decoupage paper from Fabrika Decoru:
Materials needed:
-
Fabrika Decoru desktop organizer made of 3mm MDF (unassembled);
-
Decoupage paper or napkins with the desired pattern;
-
Decoupage glue;
-
Foam sponge or soft-bristle brush;
-
Scissors;
-
Sandpaper (fine-grit, with a 500 grit or a higher index);
-
"Deco Acrylic" acrylic paint from Fabrika Decoru (optional);
-
Matte or glossy varnish for the finishing coat.
Step-by-step instruction:
-
Cut the decoupage paper: Cut out the desired patterns or elements from the decoupage paper (or napkins). Use large and small scissors to carefully cut out the design you want to apply. If you are using a background card, cut it to the desired size (with a slight margin).
-
Apply decoupage glue: Using a foam brush or soft-bristle brush, apply a thin and even layer of decoupage glue to the area where you want to place the decoupage paper. Make sure to cover the entire area where the paper will be placed.
-
Dampen the decoupage card: Place the decoupage card face down on a transparent film. You can use a file or a bag of appropriate size for this. Moisten the card with water using a brush or a sprayer, and wait for it to absorb. Remove excess water with a paper napkin.
-
Fit all the elements: Without removing the decoupage card from the film, place it on the area with glue. Smooth out the image directly on top of the film using a dry brush or soft cloth. Once you are sure it is evenly attached without wrinkles or bubbles, remove the film. Apply another layer of decoupage glue to the paper using long, smooth strokes. This will seal and protect the paper, providing a smooth surface.
-
Remove excess paper: Use sandpaper to remove any excess paper.
-
Repeat for other sections: If you want to apply decoupage paper to other sections of the desktop organizer, repeat steps 1-5 for each section. Be careful and try to align the pattern.
-
Protective layer: To enhance the appearance and durability of the decoupage layer, cover the entire surface with a matte or glossy decoupage varnish. Allow the glue, paint, and decoupage varnish to dry completely according to the manufacturer's instructions. The drying process may take several hours.
When everything is dry, your stylish organizer with original decoration is ready to use! Enjoy the stylish and personalized design that will add a unique touch to your interior or workspace. Remember to handle the surface of the organizer with care. Do not use aggressive cleaning agents or rough sponges that could damage the decoupage pattern.
