Hello everyone!
Today we are sharing a useful tutorial made by our designer Yelena Yushchenko on how to decorate plywood organizers with our new product – shabby chalk pastes. Yelena has decorated a big organizer for scrapbooking paper and a smaller one for die cuts and chipboard.
Do not forget that Fabrika Decoru has prepared a bonus for you! At the end of the post, you will find a DISCOUNT PROMO CODE for the materials that Lena used to create her project! Take advantage of the wonderful opportunity to purchase high quality materials! Active links to materials and terms of use of the promo code are at the bottom of the post.
Now let’s see what Lena tells about her creative process: “I painted my small box with shabby velour paint, Avocado color. A large organizer was painted with the shabby velour Stormy sky paint. I didn’t prime my organizers before applying paint. Shabby velour paints are perfectly applied to such surfaces without prior priming. On the front side, I decided to make a slight accent and added a decoupage card from the new products by Fabrika Decoru. I glued the decoupage card to the base using decoupage multi-mat glue varnish. I decorated my organizers using stencils and new colored matte chalk pastes Shabby Chalk Pastes by Fabrika Decoru. There are 24 colors in the line of these pastes, so the choice is quite large.
To decorate my small box, I used shades similar in color to shabby velour Avocado paint namely Olive and Khaki pastes. The large organizer for scrapbooking paper looks great with shabby velour Stormy sky paint in combination with chalk pastes, colors Lavender and Azure. With the help of these pastes, I applied a drawing that made my organizers more contrasting and, hopefully, interesting due to color stretch marks.
After working with the pastes, I cleaned the neck of the jar from the remains of the paste and wiped the neck of the jar with a damp cloth so that the lid would fit very tightly to the jar and the paste would not dry out. It is necessary to do so that later you can easily open the jar during working on your next project with the paste. At the final stage, for greater durability and active use of the organizer, I covered it with a multi-mat varnish. It was my choice but there is a wide variety of varnishes on Fabrika Decoru website. There are also matte and glossy mediums.
I wanted to experiment more so I covered my other organizer with an acrylic glossy medium. That made the surface a little darker than the one left without medium. Moreover, the surface became glossy, shiny and very smooth. This surface coating method is excellent for dealing with inner surfaces of organizers after painting. The surface inside becomes firm and smooth. This makes the period of active use longer and your organizers will look neat and like new ones for quite a long time.
The surface of the small organizer remains quite matte after applying the multi-matt varnish, but at the same time smoother than the ones I left uncoated for comparison. For a stronger final coating, you can cover it in 3-4 layers with this varnish.
Separately, I would like to note that I applied the drawing to the organizer for scrapbook paper using the stencil from recent novelties by Fabrika Decoru. This is a large stencil that allows to extend an ornament due to a properly crafted pattern. Thus, it can be applied on very large surfaces. I really liked how this stencil was applied in my project! I think that such large stencils will now be ones of my favorite materials by Fabrika Decoru."
